THIS IS MY FAVORITE THING EVER.
P.S. MY FAVORITE FACT ABOUT AKHENATEN’S REIGN: His cult of personality (as John Green so aptly put it) was so strong that he actually CHANGED Egyptian art - for thousands of years Egyptian art had looked virtually the same in its depiction of the human form - imagine if every single painted or drawn image of a human looked like Picasso had painted it, but not just exclusively for the last 60 years, but for 2000 years before that as well. Yeah, nuts, right? So Akhenaten, as part of his belief in Aten (the sun disk), pressured artists to depict people more accurately, which is why he looks all whippy and has a strange, distended belly in statues and reliefs of him. He looked weird BUT HE WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE THAT. What! Also he was married to Nefertiti - remember her? She’s the one who’s recently discovered bust is widely renowned as the ultimate standard of beauty. Well since that was done honestly from her life, we can pretty safely assume that she was the most beautiful human to ever have lived.
Suck it, Helen of Troy.
This show is also a thing that exists!!
