Edited to add that Brendan is right, central NY is literally the worst.  Ithaca is worse than Utica because it’s WAY more in the middle of nowhere.  Especially if you are coming from New England.  It’s all about the pike -> thruway, baby!

If I go to my school for our upcomingish 5 year reunion, I am going to try to remember to take a picture of the signpost for exit 30 or 29 that (for at least 4 years) said “ATTRACTIONS” and was totally blank.

Ithaca is worse than Utica? Have you ever been to Utica? I’m pretty sure that if it vanished from the planet nobody would even notice.

Also, I didn’t get raped for tolls on the Thruway going from New England to Ithaca for four years. I-88 FTW!

Utica sucks, but Hamilton’s well outside it, and the commercial center in New Hartford was hopping by the time I graduated.  A ton of 24 hour grocery stores, Barnes and Noble, a decent mall, Target, movie theatre… all less than 10 miles away.  I also had a standard transmission that laughed at snow, so it wasn’t as awful as it could have been.

I have actually never been to Ithaca though.
